Tech Week 2018 Speakers
The list below only includes a subset of the speakers and panelists that attendees will hear from, and is subject to change.
Yann LeCun is Chief AI Scientist at Facebook AI Research and is a Silver Professor at NYU University, teaching at the Courant Institute of Mathematical Science and the NYU Center for Data Science, of which he was also the Founding Director prior to joining Facebook. Much of his research has focused on deep learning, convolutional nets, and related topics. He is one of the most accomplished and respected scholars in the fields of machine learning and AI. His many contributions to these fields includes the development of convolutional neural networks, which mimic human brains in processing and analyzing visual data. He has an Engineer Diploma from the Ecole Superieure d'Ingenieurs en Electrotechnique et Electronique, Paris, in 1983 (equivalent to an MSc in EE), and a PhD in Computer Science from Universite Pierre et Marie Curie, Paris in 1987. After a postdoc at the University of Toronto, he joined AT&T Bell Laboratories in Holmdel, NJ and became head of the Image Processing Research Department at AT&T Labs-Research in 1996.
Alexandra is currently CFO of Wibbitz, a start-up providing software that enables publishers, marketers, and agencies to create engaging video content quickly, easily, and at scale. Prior to that, Alexandra was CFO at Launchmetrics, a company specializing in technology for the fashion, luxury, and cosmetics industries. Throughout her career she has focused on working with start-up and growth-stage companies, mostly including international subsidiaries or expansions. Alexandra graduated with a BS from the NYU Stern School of Business and is a Certified Public Accountant in the US.
Bob (Stern class of ‘14) joined Uber following completion of the Stern full-time MBA program. For the past 3 years he has worked on Uber’s Vehicle Solutions program, which seeks to eliminate car ownership as a barrier to entry for qualified drivers who seek access to flexible earnings. His team partners with OEMs, rental providers, and mobility startups to offer flexible vehicle rental options and advance Uber's mission to "Ignite opportunity by setting the world in motion." During his 4 years at Uber, he's spent time in San Diego, Washington, D.C. and is now based in New York City.
Anna, a Senior Manager at Amazon, is originally from Seattle and went to undergrad at American University in Washington DC, majoring in International Relations and Environmental Science. She then spent four years working for a USAID consulting firm, Chemonics International, before going to get her MBA at UCLA. While at UCLA she interned with Amazon, working in Kindle. After graduation in 2012, she joined Amazon full-time and has held a variety of roles there including vendor management in Grocery, product management launching Amazon.mx, and most recently led a supply chain and analytics team for Amazon Fresh. In a few months she will be packing up her family and heading to Berlin to lead Amazon’s product, tech, and marketing team for Gifting. She spends most of her spare time chasing around her 3 year old and 8 month old boys, usually at the park or beach in and around West Seattle.
John is the Product Lead at Asana's New York office. Prior to joining Asana in 2017, he held product management roles at a startup, 1stdibs.com and Showtime Networks. John majored in computer science at UPenn and spent seven years as a software engineer before earning his MBA from NYU’s Stern School of Business. At Stern, he was the tech club's VP of Treks.
Steve (or Schlaf, as people tend to call him) is a Partner at Primary Venture Partners. He has been investing in the NYC tech ecosystem for the last decade. Most recently, Steve was a Principal at RRE Ventures and Lerer Hippeau, where he focused on Seed and Series A investing. Prior to that, Steve was also Director of New Ventures at The Kraft Group, owners of the New England Patriots. He also brings a range of operational experience to Primary. He began his career at Microsoft, where he was a Senior Financial Analyst focused on Corporate Finance, Strategy and M&A. Steve then held a variety of operational roles at NYC-based startups Massive and Stickybits (also known as Turntable.fm). Steve’s mission is to be the most human-centric investor in NYC by helping talented founders become exceptional leaders.
Nate is a Senior Product Marketing & Strategy Manager at Flatiron Health. At Flatiron Health, he focuses on product strategy and client engagement across clinical and operational practice workflows, data sharing, clinical trials, and regulatory programs for the company’s oncology-specific electronic health record, OncoEMR. Previously, Nate managed internal training for the healthcare technology company ZocDoc where he focused on developing product communication and engaging strategic community healthcare practices. Nate graduated magna cum laude from Cornell University with a Bachelor of Arts.
Jessie is Head of Ecosystem at CARMERA, the street-level intelligence platform specializing in high-definition mapping for autonomous vehicles. She joins CARMERA after serving as the Chief Digital Officer for the City of New York, where she led the City's efforts to grow its tech economy. An alum of Harvard Business School and Middlebury College, Jessie lives with her husband in Brooklyn.
Julian is Founding Partner at Schematic Ventures. He started a career in technology as a software developer at Fortna where he worked on warehouse control & automation systems. After a period in technology investment banking, he began investing in industrial hardware and supply chain sectors at a venture capital fund in New York.
Julian graduated magna cum laude from UVA with a BsC in systems engineering and holds an MBA from MIT.
As founding director of the Transit Tech Lab, Natalia works with technology innovators and leaders at the Metropolitan Transportation Authority to help shape the future of transit in New York City. She joins from Parity Partners where she built the Parity Professional Program (P3), an organization of over 500 women in venture capital, private equity and technology across London, New York and San Francisco.
Previously, Natalia worked at Socialatom Ventures as head of platform and Government Affairs in Latin America. In that role she collaborated with governments across Latin America to develop policy and projects that created economic development for the region. Before that, she served as an analyst to the CFO of Citigroup in New York.
She is interested in ways to leverage technology as a tool that promotes access and equity. Natalia is a graduate of Columbia University and originally from Los Angeles, California, and Bogota, Colombia. She is based in New York City.
Frédéric is CEO of LGO Exchange, and is n accomplished entrepreneur and investor with 20 years experience, Frédéric has founded and exited 4 companies for a total value of more than USD 400 million. He is ranked as the 7th largest start-up investor in France and has been involved in the field of cryptocurrency as an investor since 2013. He is a published blockchain influencer.
Claire is a Principal with Corigin Ventures. She is responsible for sourcing and analyzing deals, along with working with, and supporting portfolio companies. She began her career working in Investment Banking with Credit Suisse, both in their Toronto and New York offices. She did a stint working for the Nairobi-based growth private equity firm, Jacana Partners. Claire spent time working in the UK for the FinTech company Ebury, leading their M&A growth strategy efforts and working to prepare the company for a capital raise.
Claire earned an MBA from The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania, and a Bachelor of Commerce from Dalhousie University in Halifax, Canada.
