Interested in the tech industry and want to interact face-to-face with leading companies in social media, automobiles, payments, venture capital and more? Want to find out about the value of an MBA in the tech industry?

Join us for the annual Stern Tech Association West Coast Trek!

Seattle: January 3-4, 2019 (Thursday and Friday)

San Francisco/Silicon Valley: January 7-9, 2019 (Monday through Wednesday)

*participants will be asked to arrange their own flights.

Why should I go?

1. Fantastic networking opportunity - you've heard it, and it's true - it's all about the network, especially in the tech industry, where insider recommendations are often crucial for summer/full time consideration. The trek is packed with multiple networking opportunities where you'll be able to interact with both current employees in the tech space and Stern alumni on the West Coast. This trek is conveniently scheduled before interviews and will be especially beneficial to those looking to transition into tech for internships and post-MBA.

2. Get a first hand 'feel' of companies - find out what it feels like to work on the West Coast, and get a first hand 'feel' of the companies and their culture.

3. Great bonding experience - Spend an intense and exciting 3-5 days with fellow Sternies who are also interested in the tech space, and build your own network within the Stern community!

Which companies are we visiting?

Last year, in Seattle we visited Amazon, Microsoft, Tableau, Zillow, and Starbucks. In the Bay Area we visited Tesla, Facebook, Google, Salesforce, LinkedIn, Eventbrite, Slack, Affirm, Scoop, Airbnb, and Twitter.

Stay tuned for an update on companies we're visiting this year—we're planning on another exciting line up!

Reviews from prior treks

"I hoped to get a better understanding of different functions of tech companies, potential opportunities, and the life and work of Stern alum on the west coast. My expectations well met!"

"I just wanted to get a general feel for the Bay Area and hear more about navigating the process as an MBA. Definitely got what I needed out of the visit, and had a ton of fun"

The information session for the 2019 West Coast Tech Trek will be held on October 24, 2018. Please see more details and RSVP on Campus Groups.

How do I apply? Attend the info session to learn more about the application process and timing.

Is there a limit to the number of attendees? Yes. Last year we were limited to about 30 students for each leg. Stay tuned for updates on the limit for 2019.

Who can attend? First and second-year full-time MBAs, as well as Langone students, may attend.

What is the cost to attend? Last year, the fee was $250 for the Bay Area and $100 for Seattle. This covers all group ground transportation and multiple alumni happy hours. This year’s fees are TBD.

Are flights and hotels included? Students will be responsible for booking their own accommodations and transportation to/from the cities. We will provide a discounted rate at one hotel in each location.

Can I attend just one leg, Seattle or San Francisco? Absolutely.

Can I customize my trek? You are required to attend all official company visits and trek events. However, you are welcome to add extra days to your trip to schedule additional meetings with alumni and other contacts.

Will the Trek interfere with January on-campus recruiting? Investment banking is the only industry for which on-campus interviews will conflict with the Trek.

Are there events on the weekend? There are no official events on Saturday, January 5 or Sunday, January 6. You are free to plan other activities or travel, as long as you arrive in San Francisco by Sunday night for the start of the second leg Monday morning.
