Britt Glassman: PM at Amazon

Class of 2020

Product Management at Amazon

Luxembourg

What was the best part of your internship?

Living in Europe.

What was the company's culture like?

Amazon is driven by Leadership Principles (LPs for short). It's also a place where you are expected to learn quickly without much guidance. While this is difficult at first, I came away learning so much and was super thankful at the end of the experience.

What kind of events did you get to do with your fellow interns and/or team?

I became very close with my intern class and ended up doing a bunch of weekend trips with them around Europe. Milan was probably my favorite.

What was the city like? Did you have a chance to explore? Did it affect your internship in any way?

Luxembourg is a pretty quiet town (everything closes on Sundays). But, it is an incredibly beautiful place sandwiched between France, Germany, and Belgium. The travel opportunities were incredible, and I took advantage of the location every single weekend. Being in Europe made my internship experience unforgettable. I wouldn't trade it for anything.

What was most challenging part of your internship and what would you do it again if you could?

My specific project required some SQL knowledge which I did not have. I needed to leverage my limited network and ask for a lot of help. I wish I had known this before I started on my project so that I could have gained some experience rather than trying to learn on the job.

What was most helpful to you during the recruiting process?

The MBA2s are an incredible resource that can't be emphasized enough. I leaned on them a ton to help me prepare and mock interview. The STA study groups are also a great way to make connections with fellow classmates recruiting for tech and with an MBA2 mentor. I honestly can't remember how many coffee chats I did, but I tried to set up time with any MBA2 that interned at a company I was remotely interested in.

What advice do you have for current and prospective students for their internships?

Be open in terms of tech opportunities and don't limit yourself to FAANG companies. I was surprised about some of the other places I became interested in, and I think sometimes the coolest opportunities are at companies you do not think of at first.

Anything else?

Try not to stress and have as much fun as possible. The two years goes by way too fast.
