Class of 2020

Product Marketing Manager at Facebook

New York

What did you do prior to your Stern MBA?

Corporate strategy at HarperCollins Publishers.

What was the best part of your internship?

I really enjoyed the project I was assigned to work on over the summer - I was asked to create a new segmentation model for public figures and creators using the Facebook app. It was an interesting topic, and the recommendations I made in my final presentation were adopted by the team and are still in use today.

What was the company's culture like?

Open, transparent, inclusive, friendly/welcoming

What kind of events did you get to do with your fellow interns and/or team?

The MBA interns did a Harry Potter themed mixology class, which was a lot of fun. My team also had a few offsite group dinners throughout the summer.

What was most helpful to you during the recruiting process?

I tried to set up coffee chats with all of the MBA2s who had interned at companies I was interested in applying to myself. These were really valuable and helped me personalize my resume and cover letter for each role. These conversations also helped me come up with a strong answer to the "Why this company?" question that's asked at most interviews. I'd also recommend forming a small group of people who are also recruiting for the same industry so that you can study/prepare together and have a good support system throughout the recruiting process.

What advice do you have for current and prospective students for their internships?

Be curious and ask a lot of questions! Set up individual coffee chats with everyone on your team at the beginning of the internship. If you realize you might be interested in a different role or team at the company, try to get introduced to someone in that role/team and set up time to chat with them, as well.
